Title: Synthesis of Novel metal complex from Para toluidine with maleic anhydride and its antimicrobial studies

Year: 2023  Abstract              Full Paper       [Download]           Page:

Abstract: Metal complexes are now a common therapeutic chemical used to treat a variety of human ailments and are an emerging technique in drug development. In this study, the Novel metal complex has been synthesized by two-step reactions. Firstly, the anhydride linker was formed by the coupling of maleic anhydride with para toluidine in presence of glacial acetic acid at room temperature. Secondly, synthesized anhydride was mixed with metallic salt dropwise in presence of DMF in the round bottom flask. The mixture was refluxed at 50 degrees for 12 hours and after that, the mixture was refluxed for 24 hours. The complex of para toluidine with maleic anhydride formed. The 12 hours product shows the powder form, and the 24-hour product shows sharp crystals. The products were characterized by different techniques such as FTIR, UV, and PXRD. Antimicrobial studies were also done and measured the inhibition zone of bacteria (gram positive and gram negative). The inhibition zone for positive bacteria is 22.5mm for the 24-hour product. The gram-negative bacteria show a 15.5mm inhibition zone. The inhibition zone for 24 hours was greater than 12 hours.

Title: INVESTIGATION OF BIOFILM FORMING BACTERIA AND FUNGI FROM BATHROOM WALL SURFACE IN UNIVERSITY STUDENT’S HOSTELS, MIDDLE BELT, NIGERIA

Year: 2023  Abstract              Full Paper  [Download]             Page:

Abstract: Biofilms are a group of single species or community of microorganisms embedded under an extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) or matrix. To investigate bacteria and fungi forming biofilms from bathroom wall surfaces. Swab samples were cultured on Nutrient Agar, Cystine-Lactose Electrolyte-Defficient Agar, Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, and SabouraudDextrose Agar following the manufacturer’s instructions. Morphological and Biochemical characterization of isolates were carried out using standard microbiological techniques. Bacterial species belonging to five genera were identified from which Staphylococcus aureus(30%) and Escherichia coli (18%) were the most prevalent recorded. Streptococcus spp and Klebsiella pneumoniae (16%), followed by Bacillus subtilis (10%) had the lowest occurence. The fungi species isolated were; Aspergillus spp (28%), Candidasspp (26%), Penicilliumspp (24%) and Mucorspp (22%).The growth of fungi on wall surfaces may increase the risk of mycotoxins (toxin from fungi) related illness to students in the hostel. Bacteria also releases toxins (such as endotoxins and exotoxins) which causes life threatening infections like tooth decay, prosthetic heart vesicles, periodonititis among others.

Title: Empowerment of Women:A Feminist Aspect of Shahraz’sThe Discovery

Year: 2023  Abstract         Full Paper          [Download]         Page:

Abstract: Garner (1999) and Moghadam (1992) explicate that feminism keeps providing strategies for the empowerment of women.Their struggle against the male dominating culture and effort to break traditional and patriarchal social shackles is a step towards the equality as well as empowerment of women. Zalewski and Runyan (2013) elucidate that feminism have boundary smashing activities along with philosophies for the empowerment of women with the help of re-ordering institutions globally for gender roles.Tyson (2006) relates this phenomenon as traditional roles regarding gender are a social construction for keeping women powerless for elevating man’s point of view. Savitt (1982) explains that all stereotype characters in literature high light thenarrowness as well as  confining nature of  female’s characters in literature wherethey are mostly portrayed  as incompetent, meek,  dependent, helpless, troubled, and fearful creatures while at the same time males are presented as authoritative and powerful. Women are allotted and given subservient and passive roles for facilitating men for depriving of their rights easily. Shahraz’s selected story breaks such tradition and presents her female protagonist as, confident, independent, educated and empowered woman who refuses to compromise on her self-respect and decides to live alone with her future baby.

Title: Synthesis, Characterization, Antimicrobial and Toxicological Study of Mn(II), Ni(II) Complexes of Tridentate Ligand Derived from Ethylenediamine, Chlorobenzaldehyde and Aminobenzophenone

Year: 2023  Abstract             Full Paper  [Download]              Page:

Abstract: Two novel metal complexes of tridentate ligand derived from ethylenediamine, chlorobenzaldehyde and aminobenzophenone were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis, Mass spectroscopy, Magnetic susceptibility measurement and Elemental analysis. The data obtained from the study shows that both N atoms of the Schiff base ligand and NH2 group coordinated with metal(II) ions, indicating tridentate nature of the ligand; tetrahedral geometry proposed for the complexes. The biological activity of the metal complexes and the ligand compared with the standard drugs (Amoxicillin and Nystatin) were screened against isolates of two g(+), Staphylococcus aureaus, Bascillus subtilis, three g(-) Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Shigella flexneri bacteria and two fungi strains: Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus. The obtained results indicated that both the metal complexes and the ligand showed good to moderate activity against the tested microorganism. Toxicology tests against the liver of the Wister rats showed that the prepared compounds are not toxic compared with the standard drug (Amoxicillin). The levels of AST and ALT in the tested livers of the rats are within the permissible range.

Title: The Impact of Internet Technology on Mathematics Lecturers’ Effectiveness in Higher Institutions of Learning in Oyo State, Nigeria

Year: 2023  Abstract             Full Paper  [Download]              Page:

Abstract: This study examined the impact of Internet technology on the effectiveness of mathematics teachers (teaching, research and general administration) in higher education institutions in Oyo State. This study was a survey research design. To achieve the study’s objectives, self-structured questionnaire was used to collect information from respondents. Three (3) research hypotheses were generated and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment Coefficient statistical method at a significance level of 0.05. Random Sampling technique was used to select a total of seventy (70) respondents (Mathematics lecturers) consisting of ten (10) Mathematics lecturers from the seven (7) higher education institutions in Oyo State, Nigeria. Analysis of the data revealed that there were significant relationship between internet communication and the effectiveness of mathematics teachers; internet communication and education; as well as Internet communication and research or publication by the mathematics lecturers. One of the recommendations based on the study is to make efforts to promote the use of IT colleges in Nigeria for more effective teaching.
